Why Is Inviting Important
Before you can present, recruit or build a team, you invite. The better you become at inviting, the better you’ll be at building your business . If you can train your team to invite, multiplication and duplication will take place. Today, I want to share a couple of quick tips to help you get better at inviting:
1. Do Not Be Addicted To The Outcome
– For some reason, we act as if everyone we share our opportunity with
should say yes. You have a super passion and a deep belief in what you
are doing, so when others do not see it, we often wonder what we are
doing wrong or why they don’t “get it.” Trust me, I totally get that! I
was the same way. But being “addicted to the outcome” is counter
productive.
When you are addicted to the outcome, the
nos begin to weigh you down, you begin to take the “rejection”
personally and you end up not taking action.
Realize this: no one has ever succeeded
in building a successful business without thousands of nos. Don’t take it
personally, and do not care if it’s a yes or a no. Your job is to
simply share the opportunity and get eyes on the presentation.
2. Show Excitement & Enthusiasm
– You have to be excited and show enthusiasm for your
opportunity. Why would anyone want to partner with you in business if
you’re not excited about what you have going on? Your enthusiasm will
get more people to watch your presentation. Your enthusiasm creates
curiosity and will help get others excited about what you are doing. A
lack of excitement is a huge turn off.
3. Don’t Talk Too Much –
One of the biggest problems most people have during their invite is they
say too much. They try to over explain or give too many details. This
is where you need to go back to the way you invite people to dinner or
for lunch. You simply say “Hey, want to go to lunch tomorrow?” I’ve
heard someone reason say this: “We seem to know more about inviting
before we get into building a business. As soon as we get in, we seem to
forget how to invite.”
Isn’t that the truth? Don’t talk too much, don’t over explain and simply invite them.
4. Be Busy When You Invite –
Were you like me the first time you heard this? I thought if you were
inviting someone it would be rude to be in a hurry and not have the time
to address some of their questions. By addressing some of their
questions, you’re not addressing ALL of their questions and they are
much more likely to pre-judge without hearing all of the details.
Busy folks are the ones who are the
movers and shakers. Busy people are the ones getting things done. Busy
people attract other people to them because busy people are the ones
who have success.
Also, by being busy, you prevent yourself
from saying too much. Your purpose of inviting is to get them to a
presentation, not to explain at the time of the invite.
By being busy you create curiosity about what you’re up to. There are so many positive reasons around being busy!
5. Do Not Send Links Through email or Social Media
– The reasons for this could easily go into the hundreds, but simply
put, it’s not professional. Have you heard the saying “treat your
business like a business and it will pay like a business?” How many
professional business people do you know who would try to close a deal
via email? If Donald Trump wanted to do business with Warren Buffett,
do you think he would send a link to the business presentation through
email or leave a post on his Facebook.
If you want to get better at inviting, do not go straight to the pitch but instead get people to a presentation.
Social media can be great for your business, that’s why I use it. But it’s not the place for making an effective invite to build your business.
Invite 10 people and then evaluate what worked and what did not work.
Then invite 10 more and do the same.
Then invite 10 more prospects and evaluate what you did again.
The more you invite, the better you get. The more you evaluate what you did and the responses that you received, the better you’ll become.
Whatever you do, keep inviting and keep starting conversations. It’s the best way to get good at inviting.
